Outdoor Kids Halloween Party
Looking for a non scary way to celebrate Halloween with kids at home this year? Then you need to have an outdoor spooky tea party! Every year we like to meet up with our dear friends who have a wood at the end of their garden and have an outdoor Halloween kid’s party! A spooky tea party is an easy way to make Halloween special for kids without making it a scary experience. An outdoor creepy tea party is a lovely way to celebrate the Autumn season with yummy Halloween treats for kids and it’s a perfect socially distanced way to celebrate Halloween in your own garden or a park (or a woods for a super special spooky feel!)
Here’s the steps you need to create your own spooky tea party for Halloween at home……
Easy Halloween Tea Party outdoor decorations
You don’t have to spend lots of money on Halloween decorations. The best decorations are ones you make yourself that can be hung outside. These are our favourite ideas for Halloween Tea Party decorations. Creepy fabric and spooky spiderwebs look great suspended from trees and these light up balloons really set the scene!
String Balloon Spiderwebs – Blow up a balloon and in a mixing bowl, mix hot water with cornstarch and some white glue. Dip your wool into the glue mixture and wrap the inflated balloon with the wool. Allow the balloons to dry completely. This may take up to 24 hours. The yarn should be stiff and then – Pop the balloon! Add some plastic spiders to look like a spiderweb!
Decorate Pumpkins! – Carve or decorate your pumpkins to add to your outdoor space. Try these easy no carve nature pumpkin ideas!
Mummy Light Jars – Light your way with these easy mason jar mummy lights! Pop tea lights in the jar and wrap bandages around the jar adding googly eyes for that spooky effect!
Spooky Halloween Tea Food ideas
Try these ideas to have your own spooky themed dinner! Try starting with these cute spider crackers for a snack………………
…….Then our two favourite spooky tea dinners are pizza mummies with olive eyes or Witches sausage fingers (chipolatas work best) and worms (spaghetti). Or try Fish Fingers made to look like real fingers with red pepper as the nails! For more fun spooky food ideas – try here! And I love these Halloween crafts for kids too!
Spooky Bakes and Halloween Baking for Kids
You’ll want to have some sweet treats to round off your spooky tea party – here are our favourite Spooky Bakes and Halloween treats as they’re quick and easy!
Toffee/chocolate apples – Rather than covering whole apples which can be a bit sickly, we cut up apple chunks, pop a lolly stick in and cover them in chocolate. We made these last year and they were a big success. I provided a choice of sprinkles and they are a lovely activity to do. Find out how to make homemade toffee apples here.
Spooky Fruit – For a healthier Halloween treat – try ghost bananas and Halloween Pumpkin Satsumas!
Spider Cookies – These Spider Cookies are really easy to make and make a super cute spooky bake for your Outdoor Halloween Tea Party! Get the recipe in the above link!
Graveyard Mousse – For the easiest bake around – mix chocolate mousse and bashed chocolate biscuits – add some jelly sweet worms and turn a Bourbon Biscuit into a gravestone and hey presto! You have a yummy graveyard mousse!

Outdoor Garden Halloween Party Games for Kids

Apple Bobbing – bobbing for apples is a classic Autumnal Game which is loads of fun for the whole family – you could try to make it more gooey by using slime or jelly instead of water!!
Find the Slug in the Flour – This is brilliant following the apple bobbing – what’s better than a wet face covered in sticky flour?! And no need to worry about the mess when it’s an outdoor spooky tea! The slug is actually a prune or date, kids bury their face in the flour to find it!
Glow Stick Bowling – Use empty plastic bottles or milk jugs with glow sticks inside to be the skittles and have lots of fun knocking them over! These glow sticks are great because they have a long lasting glow! You could also use a glow-in-the-dark-ball so it doesn’t get lost in a hedge!
Halloween Treasure Hunt – Have a Halloween hunt in the garden with lots of treats and fun mysteries to solve. A bit like an Easter Egg hunt but for Halloween!
Halloween Spooky Scavenger Hunt Walk – If you prefer a to go on a walk and do a scavenger hunt during your party – here’s the perfect downloadable Scavenger Hunt Sheet!
Doughnuts on a String Eating Contest! Tie a string through the whole of each doughnut. Have all players come and stand in front of a doughnut. It might be good to have strings of varying lengths so players can select, based on their height, which doughnut hangs best next to their mouth! Then all the players race to see who can eat their doughnut the fastest. The trick is no hands are allowed, so players can use only their mouths to eat! This is trickier than it sounds and makes for lots of giggles!
I’m a Celebrity get me out of Here inspired eating Challenge – Try this TV inspired jungle trial game using cockroach smoothie (porridge with chocolate sprinkles) and fish eyeballs (melon balls with a raisin iris and jam juice) If you’re really brave (or have teenagers) you could even try a real Bushtucker Trial with this Game!
Spooky Sensory Bucket – This is a great idea for a Halloween party! Using a large cardboard box, cut holes in and put some ‘gooey surprises’ inside. Blindfold the kids and then they have to feel inside and guess what horrid things they are touching! Try spaghetti (veins or worms), play spiders, slime with fake eyeballs in and these slimy slugs are perfect placed on some sticks and leaves!
