No Carve Nature Pumpkins
Pressed Flower Pumpkin
A cute and easy no-carve nature pumpkin idea is to decorate your pumpkin using pressed flowers. Pick some flowers and press them carefully in a flower press or in between the pages of some heavy books. When they’re flat and all the petals are pressed, decorate your pumpkin (carefully as the petals are very delicate) by gluing the flowers on. Ensure that you use a glue that dries clear such as Modge Podge or Elmers. Adding some glue over the top of the flower to seal it will ensure that your flowers stay flat.
Flower Pumpkin
If you can’t wait to press your flowers and want to decorate your pumpkin right now – try using real flowers. Using a sharp skewer (we used corn on the cob skewers as they’re easy for little hands) make small holes in your pumpkin. Cut your flowers so they have a little sharp stem. Poke the stem flowers into the holes so that the flowers stand up all round the pumpkin! You could combine this with other nature items such as sticks or pebbles to make a face with the flowers as the hair!

Pumpkin Stick Hedgehog
A great fine motor activity for preschoolers and a lovely Autumn craft for kids is to bang sticks into your pumpkin to make a hedgehog! Collect some sticks and break them to make them a similar length. Using a skewer, make small holes all over the back of your pumpkin (an adult can do this if you’re making these with younger children). Then using a small wooden hammer or even a spoon, bang the sticks into the pumpkin to make the prickles of the hedgehog! You can add legs and googly eyes if you wish! Try growing your own pumpkins with this helpful advice.

Pumpkin Nature Face
This a great no carve nature pumpkin idea and a good keeping kids busy idea for a lovely Autumn afternoon activity. Take the kids for a woodland walk and collect lots of Autumnal nature treasures such as….
- acorns
- twigs
- leaves
- helicopter sycamore seeds
- pine cones
- conkers
Then use them to make this gorgeous Nature Pumpkin Face from Fireflies and Mudpies. It needs a hot glue gun (we love this mini glue gun) to make this to ensure that your nature face features don’t fall off! This would make a lovely welcoming pumpkin decoration to adorn your doorway!
How to make a Bird Feeder Pumpkin
If you’re looking for a way to use up your pumpkin after carving (or eating) then pumpkins make great bird feeders! Simply scoop out the middle and add some seed. You can add two twigs across the top to stop the seed falling out and to hang it from the trees!
Mehndi Art Tattoo Pumpkin
Ok – this doesn’t really use any nature material but is THE easiest way to decorate a pumpkin and produces stunning results so I thought it was important to include in here! This is a really easy way to decorate a pumpkin for kids of all ages. Even toddlers can have a go! You’ll need black mehndi nature style fake tattoos or I haven’t tried gold but think that would look equally as lovely! Cut out your tattoos and place them on the pumpkin. Wet a sponge and carefully wet the tattoo backing until the tattoo comes off on the pumpkin. It’s as simple as that!
Gratitude Pumpkin
As a symbol for the season, I love this Thanksgiving pumpkin idea from Coffee and Carpool. It’s a great way to help kids to be thankful ahead of the Christmas period and makes a lovely Autumnal display piece. Write on your pumpkin all the things your family is grateful for – we’re going to make this our new Autumnal tradition!
