Choosing the Perfect Gift for a Pre-Teen

Choosing a gift for a pre-teen can seem impossible. Trends have changed since our own pre-teen years, but here are some tips to help you choose a gift they’ll love.

Something based on their interests

Wicked Uncle makes it easier to find gifts for children of all ages, based on their interests. That includes fantastic presents for pre-teens. So, if you searched for gifts for a 12-year-old girl, you could narrow down your search with categories such as books, educational, fashion & style, outdoor fun, creativity or many others. This makes it easier to find something your child will appreciate and get a lot of use out of.

Give them experiences

Experiences can be more memorable than some gifts, not just because you can take lots of photos during days out, or during more unique experiences. This can be the start of a hobby or interest for your pre-teen.

If you arrange outdoor activities such as climbing, camping or rowing, this can get them interested in living an active life, which will benefit them when they are older. Alternatively, a trip to the zoo, wildlife park, or Sealife centre could help them learn more and develop an interest in animals.

Clothes

Many pre-teens have already started to develop their own style, so clothes could make the perfect gift. If you have a good idea of the clothes they like, you could surprise them. Alternatively, you could ask what they would like. Better still, offer to take them shopping so they can choose and try on clothing themselves. You can buy them a milkshake or their favourite fast food afterwards, as a special treat.

Jewellery

Jewellery is another option. Many pre-teen girls have their ears pierced, so earrings are a perfect choice, and there are lots of styles to choose from which would suit pre-teens.

Otherwise, you can choose a simple pendant or some bangles. Again, taking them shopping will ensure they get the jewellery they want. You can set a budget by giving them vouchers, so you don’t have to worry they’ll choose something out of your price range.

Merchandise from their favourite TV shows or bands

If your pre-teen has a favourite TV show they watch without fail or a band they are constantly listening to on repeat, it might be a little grating for you. However, you can use this knowledge to buy them a gift they absolutely love. Music and TV shows with a large following almost always have merchandise, so by buying some of this as a gift, your pre-teen will be delighted.

If you’re not sure what they like, it’s easy enough to ask them about their favourite music, shows or anything else they’re currently interested in. They will be pleased you’re taking an interest, and it will help you gather gift ideas.

If you take the time to get to know your child, it’s easier to use this information to choose a gift. Trends can change so quickly, but by keeping up, you can get your gift-buying right every time.
