Everything you need for your Campervan Travels

Going for a campervan holiday can be an extremely rewarding thing – but it might also present challenges. Overcoming these challenges is often a matter of preparing in the right way, and this is easy to do when you know how. Let’s take a look at what you’ll need to make your campervan holiday go without a hitch.

Tips for Campervan Holidays

GPS

Almost by definition, you’re going to be driving through unfamiliar territory during your campervan travels. Having a good GPS system will make the difference. While you might be tempted to rely on the satnav on your phone, you might struggle to get reliable reception on it when you’re deep in the wilderness. Invest in something robust and future-proof, and don’t look back!

Crockery and Cutlery

Inexpensive kitchen supplies will tend to function just as well as the posher stuff. After all, you can expect your plates, bowls, knives and forks to sustain a lot of punishment over the course of the average holiday. See here for all our family camping essentials.

Sleeping essentials

A variety of blankets and sleeping bags will help to make your nights in the campervan that much more comfortable, especially if you’re going to be using it during winter. For the same reason, it’s worth insulating your campervan, too. For more camping hacks – see our camping tips post here.

Cleaning essentials

Maintaining a decent supply of chemical cleaners, sponges and scrubbing brushes will be extremely worthwhile. After all, you’re going to be getting grubby during your travels, and keeping your boots, bicycles and clothes in good condition will be an ongoing struggle.

Fold-up chairs

Sitting outside, perhaps around a propane stove, is one of the great joys of a campervan holiday. But this experience is a great deal less joyous if you’re sitting on the wet grass rather than a nice collapsible camping chair. These tend to be affordable, and you’ll tend to get a lot of use out of a quality set.

Documentation

It’s a good idea to keep your driver’s license, passport and other identifying documents on board the campervan. This goes especially if you’re going to be crossing national boundaries.

Insurance

Among the most important documents you’ll take with you are your insurance papers. Insurance is a legal requirement if you’re going to be driving on UK roads, and if you’re driving a campervan, it tends to pay to invest in specialised campervan insurance.

Board Games

One of the virtues of a campervan holiday is that you’ll get plenty of downtime to unplug and bond as a family. Don’t be tempted to simply equip everyone with a screen to look at in the evening. Get a good board game instead, and gather round as a group. Ideally, your campervan should come with a selection of them. See our favourite board games here!
