Orchard Games are educational for preschoolers and older children – focusing on social skills, colour, number and letter recognition as well as developing early Maths and reading skills. Here’s our round up of the best Orchard Toy Games for 3-7 year olds.
Best Orchard Games for 3 year-olds
For 3 year-olds, Orchard Games have a great selection of toys that help toddler take turns and share! Very important in our house! But they also have a great selection of toys that get preschoolers ready for school with basic literacy and numeracy support.
This is a favourite with our three year old! The game can be used to get children interested in cooking by talking about the different ingredients and utensils, as well as foods from around the world. The addition of the spinner turns Crazy Chefs into a game of chance to see who will cook their meal first! It’s one way we got our three year old to try some noodles!!
Like most three year olds, Archie loves anything to do with mud and making a mess so this game appeals to his humour! There are two ways to play this colourful game, for both younger and more advanced players. This means children of all ages can play and enjoy the game together, either as a simple pairs matching or more complex memory game. The patterned welly cards can also be used to encourage children to identify the objects they can see on them. It’s a great matching game to teach turn taking skills.
Best Orchard Toy Games for 4 year olds
For 4 year olds, Orchard Toy Games have a wide selection of getting ready for school games and games that support children in Reception. For a full list of all the Orchard Toy Games – check out their website which offers detailed information for each game and the skills mapped to the KS1 curriculum that they are learning.
This is a newer game from Orchard Toys which was certainly a hit with my daughter! Again, it has two ways to play so it will last children until they are older. It’s a magical fun matching game with lovely colourful pieces.
This puzzle has been a firm favourite for all of our children. They love building the house and then discussing what’s happening to the family in each room. It also includes an activity guide. This includes questions to encourage observation, develop counting and promote imaginative play e.g. How many rooms are there in the house? What food is the doll in the kitchen making? It’s a great puzzle for building kids vocabulary.
Best Orchard Toy Games for 5 year olds
Orchard Toy Games should be your first stop for educational games that help kids learn whilst they’re having fun.
The Shopping List Game is a classic from Orchard Toys and it’s a been everyone’s family favourite in our house. The game features different types of quirky shopping lists, including paper ones and a tablet which children will enjoy. A great way to extend learning is to ask children to recognise the different grocery items from their list and read them aloud, both while playing the game and on a trip to the supermarket! Although the game is for 2 – 4 players, gameplay can also be extended to 6 or 8 players by adding either the ‘Clothes‘ or ‘Fruit and Veg‘ Extras packs for additional items and lists! This is a guaranteed game to be played again and again!
Match and Spell encourages letter recognition, teaches phonetic word building and promotes matching of pictures and words, from simple words like ‘cat’ to more complex four-letter words. There are two ways to play, and the game is designed for both guided and independent word building. There is also an extension kit which develops more advanced reading and spelling skills.
Best Orchard Toy Games for 6 year olds
If you have a Worst Witch or Harry Potter fan – they’ll also love this magic maths game. Magic Maths is an exciting and spellbinding maths game for children aged 5-7. Players take turns to solve the sums and fill their boards with yucky spell ingredients, from worm-infested cupcakes to brains and bogies! Once players have worked out the answer to the sum, the magic begins…by turning over their card and rubbing the heat sensitive patches to reveal if their answer is correct.
We love this game! It’s a real family pleaser – such a good game for the whole family to play together! Lots of people can play on teams and it’s fun for all ages. Can you pretend to be a monkey, make a noise like a firework or wiggle your ears? If you can’t, use the magic decoder and reveal your hidden forfeit on the back of the cards! Race your way around the performance board to be the first player or team to reach the finish, with lots of fun noises, actions and activities along the way! It’s a perfect game for developing observation and communication skills.
Best Orchard Toy Games for 7 year olds
This is one of the newer games from Orchard Toys – it’s great for building kids Geography skills. You explore the famous landmarks of the world from big Ben to the Great Wall of China!
Players take turns turning over landmark cards and matching them to their passport playing boards – the winner is the player who fills their board first. Each passport board features fun fact files on the reverse to further learning – just how long ago where the pyramids built, and how tall is Mount Everest?!
Those with kids will know that it’s important but also tricky to teach kids to tell the time! What’s The Time Mr Wolf? is a great board game to develop analogue and digital time telling skills. Players must race their character around the board matching the times to the central clock – but watch out for the hungry wolf!
