Cold winter’s walk in Kelsey Park: Top 10 Best Places to visit in South London #4
Last week was a really busy week. Planning for the school Christmas fair took up most of my time, Elle and Orla were sick at the beginning of the week and Fin caught it by the end. Elle had a dance competition after getting through to the finals of a choreography competition (more on that later, we were sooooooo proud of her) so it was all go, go, go here! I felt like I didn’t have much time for Orla, everything she asked to do, I found myself saying ‘in a minute’ and she watched way too many films!
I was relieved when this week came around and we had not as much on and could do the normal things with Orla like go to the park, and read books and play with her dollies.
It was such a crisp, cold morning today…..absolutely freezing actually……it took my breath away! I don’t think I’d been expecting such a chill because the sun was shining but we still felt like we needed to get out. So we bundled up in hats, scarves and gloves and headed to one of our favourite parks – Kelsey Park.
Kelsey Park is one of our closest parks and it’s such a stunner! It’s a good all rounder with a designated dog free picnic area, good playground for children of all ages, little cafe, mini golf (I have not actually ever played mini golf here which is ridiculous considering the amount of time I’ve been!) It has a lake where we’ve been lucky to see goslings and ducklings in the spring. It has good trees for climbing and playing hide and seek and the friendliest squirrels I’ve ever met (we like to take monkey nuts to feed them!) In the Autumn we love to walk along by the lake and kick all the pretty coloured leaves. In Summer we like to go for ice-creams and bouncy castles and picnics!
Orla spent today going on the curly wurly slide over and over again and making new friends on the roundabout. Then she skipped round and round the lake singing ‘Frosty the Snowman’ (Elle and Fin have taught her because they’re learning this at school.) her skipping made me laugh because she was trying to teach me how to skip and I remembered how Elle had done this with Nanny, when she was also three. While Nanny was skipping, Elle exclaimed “That’s not how we skip in London Nanny, I shall teach you London skipping!” I’ve never really got to the bottom of what ‘London Skipping’ was!
I do love cold mornings. Orla kept saying “we are getting some good fresh air” and I agreed, there’s nothing nicer than getting all puffed out in the cold and heading home to get snuggled and having a cheese toastie for Lunch! It’s been altogether lovely just having a normal, nothing special kind of day today!
