STEMS Construction toy – Learning Resources Review
We were recently sent some STEMS from Learning Resources to review. STEMS are one of Learning Resources newest construction toys, they’re great for developing fine motor skills and creativity and building 3D shapes. As soon as they arrived, the kids were excited to try and build something with these brightly coloured, exciting nobbly bobbly construction set!
STEM Construction Toy for Kids
So, what are STEMs? Stems are bright coloured, bendy, plastic construction toys that can be popped to one another to build anything! Their unusual way of connecting with each other makes them completely unique from other construction toys we’ve seen. As a result, they’re best suited to a child aged 4+ because they are a little tricky to put together for younger children. But kids like the way they feel and the challenge of building them. They are also really tactile and bendy so almost anything can be built with them. STEMs helpfully come with a leaflet of different designs that can be built. Once my kids were shown this, they set about constructing all sorts of things but had the most fun constructing hats for each other!

As well as supporting children developing their fine motor skills – children can utilise their maths skills for example by creating and learn different 2D and 3D shapes. As STEMs completely bend, once they got the hang of it – my kids liked being able to build balls and circular shapes.
