A Pink Princess Party for a 4 year old
It’s been quite mixed week what with a birthday for a very excited 4 year old and a poorly Archie. We started the week with Orla’s 4th birthday party, a very pink sparkly princess party for a little girl who really loves pink! There were princess castle cakes, unicorn cakes, yummy food and a whole host of friends and family to share the day with.
There were tons of pink decorations, it was the first party for Orla where she had some little friends to play with as well as family. Although, she’s lucky to have cousins very close in age and she was so excited about them coming!
It was a day full of ‘Frozen’ songs as as her present was a Frozen doll and Frozen dressing up outfit – oh yes! There are still Frozen fever in our house! In fact, I feel like Orla has kind of grown up with Frozen all around her. It was Elodie’s first favourite film as Orla was born and her and Finlay watched it to death whilst I was nursing a new one! I am certain ‘let it go’, or at least the intonation of it was Orla’s first phrase!
Orla had been so excited about her birthday, she had been telling people for weeks that she would be FOUR – holding up three fingers and then quickly adjusting to four! Her favourite game in the weeks leading up to her party was for her to say “what’s happening at the weekend?” and I’d say “nothing special” and we’d tease her until she burst “It’s myyyyyyy birthday!”
I didn’t take many photos as the light was so bad and it’s always so busy at a party but here are the few I took of my littlest girl’s special day. Parties are so crazy — there is so much going on and they go so fast and there are so many people and it’s so loud and fun. I don’t take many pictures during them, though I always intend to.
I can’t believe she is four!
We had all the usual party food – usual for most people in the way of ham sandwiches, mini sausages, unicorn cupcakes and crisps but also the slightly more unusual for others but totally usual for us – sausage plait. It’s an Auntie Liz favourite and wouldn’t be a party in our house without one (it’s kind of like a large spiced sausage roll – oh, so delicious!) And cake. Lots of cake.
One of the best parts of the day was the rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday to You” sung by all of us just before she blew out her candles – it was truly lovely and she looked around in complete wonder and delight at this big, bustling, beautiful family and friends – she looked delighted and ever so proud with herself!
We kept the party games simple with pass-the-parcel, pin the tail on the princess pony and musical statues. Orla was just so excited to be dancing at her party! One of my favourite things was how we decorated the house with all things pink, balloons, pom poms, banners……. and even heart shaped napkins! Everything was from Party Delights (who have a range for pretty much any party you can think of!) It was truly delightful and what makes it even lovelier is that we’ve just taken them down now to replace them with Christmas Decorations -the house remains decorated all December in some way or another!
I feel a bit sad saying goodbye to the year of Orla being three, of dressing up and learning her letters and constantly playing eye-spy and loving puzzles and loving pink! But here is to four year old Orla and starting school and what a wonderful year I’m sure it’s going to be!
