Making a Glowing Christmas Tree
I have been promising Elle and Fin that they can have a friend round for tea from school for weeks! Well, since the beginning of term anyway. One of the things I’m getting used to about life with four children is the logistics, we can’t fit an additional two school friends into the car so we made the most of Mr M working from home one day to do this!
The second logistic I needed to sort out was how to occupy Orla on the playdate. Orla is two and thinks all her brother and sister’s friends are also her friends (well, why wouldn’t they be?!) Whereas Elle and Fin obviously want time with their school friends away from their brother and sister. I can completely see both sides to this debate and do remember my own sister trying to convince my school friends to paint her nails (she was pretty adorable so mostly they agreed!) So, I came up with a spot of making to keep Orla occupied and give her siblings time to play! One thing that is guaranteed to keep Orla busy is gluing so we decided to make Glowing Christmas Trees. If you’d like to have a go, they are super easy, you will need……
- Tissue Paper
- Vellum or clear baking paper
- Glue
- Glitter
- Sequins (optional)
- Yellow Card
- Battery operated tea lights
- Cut the vellum or baking paper into a 30cm circle (approx.)
- Cover the vellum or baking paper with glue.
- Cut the tissue paper into small pieces and add to the glue in a mosaic style.
- Add glitter and sequins (optional)
- Leave to dry and then make your star by cutting two stars out of yellow card. Put a slit in both stars and slot them together to make it 3D.
- When your circle is dry, cut a slit up to the middle of the circle.
- Fold the circle round, until you make a tree shape and stick together with sticky tape.
- Put a small slit in the top and add your star.
- Place the tea lights (make sure they are battery operated to avoid a fire!) under the trees to make them glow!
