Splash Learn got in contact with us and asked if we’d like to review Splash Learn. It’s a fun literacy and maths based programme that has step by step lessons for kids to work on. You can find our other ideas for Homeschooling here.
What do we like about Splash Learn?
It’s child friendly and has cute graphics but they aren’t overly babyish – my kids loved that everything was mostly focused around animals. The games are colourful, fun, quirky and well animated, capturing and maintaining kids’ interest. I like that program has a ‘Parent Dashboard’, which provides real-time updates of your child’s progress. The program allows you to personalise each child’s learning and target skills for them to work on. What I love about Splash learn is it covers Maths and English – most other programmes I’d looked into – you had to pay twice to focus on both numeracy and literacy. I love that Splash Learn covers both topics. I also liked the reassurance that schools use Splash Learn for their students too. I liked that Splash Learn is game-based learning, the games are tightly focused around individual skills and are short enough that kids won’t get too distracted. There is loads of content – nearly 4000 games and activities for literacy and numeracy. A real bonus of Splash Learn can easily be used by kids independently, giving parents a break.
My 5 year old can access all the games and has only needed occasional help. The only con we had was that some games were a little repetitive but we remedied that by just switching more regularly between Maths and English. The best thing about Splash Learn for me was being able to see the visible progress my kids were making. Every week a helpful progress sheet pops into your inbox which shows when your child used Splash Learn and how they are progressing – it just gave a little more reassurance in these times when kids (and teachers) are in and out of school. If you want more regular feedback, you can get instant notifications on progress improvement and skill completions through their Parent Connect App for iPhone.
How much does Splash Learn cost?
Parents can choose to pay a subscription which ranges from £7.99 to £11.99 per month depending on the plan chosen, there’s a choice have the option of a monthly, quarterly, yearly or family subscription. The family plan is yearly and supports up to 3 child accounts. I didn’t think the pricing was that expensive compared to other apps on the market and I liked the variety of games on offer – it is worth the cost I think, just to have something educational to balance out screen time.
Splash Learn is a great learning tool. No, it’s not going to take the place of teaching in the classroom but as a tool to support what your children are learning at school, it’s a winner. The content contains interactive animations, fun games, great songs and lots of rewards. It supports each child’s learning by offering individual, one-on-one lessons that allow children to progress at their own rate. Catering to Reception through Year 6, the program is fully aligned to the national curriculum and suitable for all primary ages.
