We’ve had a lovely few weekends of late – family weekends. Proper time with families. We are so lucky that both of our families look after our children one day a week which is both a blessing and an absolute treat for our kiddos – it’s so lovely for them to develop a special grandparent relationship where they see them weekly. But it’s also lovely to have some weekend time, just with the family. One weekend we all met together to have scrummy meal to celebrate my brother and his girlfriend’s 30th and the next we met with Mr M’s brother’s families and all the cousins.
I was the eldest of all my cousins, although not by much and I have lovely memories of holiday get togethers where we’d spend all day preparing a show to put on for our parents! We had a similar little show with a dance performance from Orla and Naomi- it was full of the classic organisational whispers…..’you go….’ ‘no! You go!!!!’ As they tried to organise each other to perform the dream dance they had in their heads!!
The boys spent a lot of time running up and down the garden- Noah chasing Archie, Archie chasing Noah- they are only a few weeks apart so it’s fun to see them grow up together along with Dexter, who’s only a year behind- I hope they’ll all grow up to be great friends!
And in every room there was laughter. It was organised chaos. A bit like us. But that’s how I hope we remember the day. I really want to record this time and it’s a wonderful thing having a blog that our rabble will be able to read one day and look back and remember.
There’s been two new additions to the ‘cousin tribe’ in the last year and so lots of the day was the older ones having their first cuddles with the newer arrivals which was so sweet to see.
The day ended with a frantic attempt to grab a photo of all the cousins together – not ideal timing as they were all tired and grumpy and would not sit still but I love the thought that we might have an annual photo like this to compare as they grow! That, and the obligatory bath photo we usually take at Christmas when they end Christmas Day with a bubble bath together! We won’t embarrass them by posting those photos here but perhaps they’ll make an appearance at various weddings in the future!!
