Yay! School is out for Christmas! We’re all pretty excited here – me included as I also finished work today. It’s been a lovely few weeks – getting ready for Christmas with kids is the absolute best! We’ve enjoyed our advent tree, carol concerts and school concerts and school parties, wrapping presents for our teachers and we’re gearing up for the annual visit to a little road near us that totally goes to town on the festive lighting front! I love the Countdown to Christmas and love looking for lots of fun family activities for advent.
We’ve had the tree up for a couple of weeks now and it feels like it’s the biggest tree we’ve ever bought! It’s the kind of tree that means I need to stand on a dining chair to pop the star on and it feels like we need a few more ornaments to properly fill it – luckily my sister made some very clever ornaments with the kids but I still think we’ll try and squeeze in a decoration making bonanza soon!
I’m looking forward over the next few days (aside of the last minute Christmas preparations and a huge wrapping session!) to spending time with the kids and this year we’ve booked something super special to properly begin our Christmas festivities – we’re going ice-skating! Well, with the older three we are! I’m very excited as they’ve been wanting to go for ages but I’ve never felt they were quite the right age! I’m still not sure Orla is – she’s only four and I’m totally useless at ice skating – so let’s hope I don’t spend my whole time sitting down! I hope it feels magical and Christmassy – even if there is a large amount of falling over!
Oh, Christmas. Why do you come so soon? I haven’t gotten sick of you at all, I feel like I haven’t even started with the Christmassy shenanigans! Now I’m counting days and hours left to enjoy the season and feeling sad that I might not get everything done that I want to do – seeing friends, Christmas baking with friends, baking something sweet for the neighbours, drinking hot chocolate over a Christmas movie! There always seems so many lovely things to do over Christmas – it really is not a long enough a holiday! The Countdown to Advent is always full of lots of time for family fun activities, I’m also super excited to try out some ideas from the lovely Cerys book over at Rainy Day Mum. She has designed the most beautiful e-book called Countdown to Christmas with ideas and inspiration to spend quality family time together – exactly what I need to make the most of this oh-so-ever-short holiday! I’m hoping we can try out her Crystal Snowball Craft idea from her book tomorrow.
With ideas such as slow cooker fudge, dried oranges and Gingerbread Snowflake Cookies, I hope you’ll be tempted to try out some of her ideas too!
